The Patient Service Associate supports the surgical practice of the Department Chairman by scheduling office appointments, surgeries, transcribing office notes and letters, encounter forms/bills and assists, when necessary, in the day-to-day operation of the Department of Surgery by helping residents, students, physicians, patients and visitors. Duties include: answers calls for Dr. Fitzpatrick and the Department of Surgery, when necessary, forwarding the caller to the appropriate party or taking accurate messages; schedules appointments and/or surgeries for clinical patients; processes and/or assists clinical patients during office visits; types daily office note and letters to referring physicians for clinical patients; prepares encounter forms/bills for office visits and surgeries; verifies insurance information and/or obtains authorization for office visits and/or surgeries; orders office and medical supplies; and copies medical records, insurance forms, journal club articles, etc.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:

Must possess a high diploma or GED. Must possess at least one (1) year surgical office experience. Must be able to communicate and interact appropriately with physicians, residents, students, patients and interdepartmental personnel. Must possess typing skills (50wpm.)
