Teacher (Watch Me Grow, Child Development Center) - Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Educational Director, coordinates daily activities in the Child Development Center of the "Watch Me Grow" CDC. Responsibilities: Maintain confidentiality of family records and information. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities in each lesson plan in compliance with MSDE Common Core/Healthy Beginnings standards. Plans quality child development following Creative Curriculum guidelines. Establish a nurturing, supportive, and stimulating relationship with children through strong communication skills and an individualized approach to each child. Communicate clear guidelines to center parents and volunteers. Keep center supplies and equipment clean, organized, and well maintained. Observe and evaluate children, document records. Serve as the primary care giver for an assigned group of children. Communicate observations and evaluations to parent, appropriate center staff, and Center Director. Work cooperatively with all parents, accept them as vital partners in the education and developmental process. Be available for personal and/or telephone conferences with parents. Serve as a positive role model for other staff, parents, and volunteers. Attend staff meetings, professional training, workshops and seminars to gain additional knowledge of available resources and skills. Complete 12 Core of Knowledge continuing education hours completed annually. Apply for credentialing through the Maryland State Department of Education within the first month of employment. Maintain a Maryland State Department of Education Credentialing level 4 or higher. Maintain First Aid and Infant/ Child CPR certification. Requires: Minimum of 90-hour certificate with 2 years of experience, 45 Infant/Toddler Certificate with 2 years of experience, or Early Childhood Development Certificate (CDA) credential, or an Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Child Development, or a related field. Experience working with a zero to five population. A nurturing, patient, mature, organized, calm manner. Ability to communicate well with parents, community, professionals, and deal with a variety of personalities and situations with children, staff and parents. Sensitivity to parent issues and ability to build a partnership for their child's care. A working knowledge of developmental curriculum and a problem-solving approach. Discovery Station CDC Teacher, Early Head Start - Under the direct supervision of the Center-based Team Leader, the Discovery Station CDC Teacher promotes school readiness among multi-ethnic and socially isolated children ages0 to 3 in a classroom setting. Establishes a nurturing, supportive, and stimulating relationship with children through strong communication skills and an individualized approach to each child's stages of development. Duties: With guidance from the Education coordinator, plans and implements developmentally appropriate individual lesson plans and classroom activities using the Creative Curriculum, Healthy Beginnings and other resources. Communicates observations and evaluations to parents, Discovery Station CDC Team Leader, staff and Education Coordinator. Keeps center supplies and equipment clean, organized, and well maintained. Notifies Discovery Station Team Leader of needed supplies and equipment repairs. Is available for Parent Teacher Conferences and telephone conferences with center-based families. Communicates clear policies and procedures to center families and volunteers. Attends regular staff meetings, case conferences, and other meetings as requested. Familiarizes self with community resources appropriate to needs of families and acts as a liaison between families and other community service agencies. Complies with requirements as set forth to meet or exceed Head Start Performance Standards. Assists in the annual Self-Assessment. Submits annual career development plan to supervisor. Attends workshops, conferences, and continuing education trainings to gain career-related knowledge and skills. Maintains First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification. Is a Mandated Reporter of suspected cases of child abuse and neglect in accordance with Maryland State and Montgomery County regulations. Reports suspected cases of child abuse and neglect to Center-based Team Leader. Updates records in CAP60, documents observations and evaluations in Creative Curriculum Online documentation system or other data management system. Requires: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential with certification for Infants and Toddlers. Must meet qualifications for approval by the Maryland State Department of Education under COMAR 13A.16 and the Head Start Performance Standards. Experience working with multi-ethnic, low-income, and at-risk families. Experience working with the ages 0-3 population and knowledge of family-centered practices. Works cooperatively with families and accepts them as essential partners in the educationprocess. Excellent ability to communicate well with parents, community members, andprofessionals.
